Dipping bread is truly a gourmet art. It can be bland or it can be an excellent starter for any meal. The key to bread dipping is really two ingredients. 1. the bread, it has to be flavorful and fresh baked. 2. the olive oil, it has to be premium quality and very pleasing to palate. Combine these two with salt, herbs, spices, and or vinegar, and you become the artisan. Enjoy.

Appealing to the growing number of people trying to restrict their diets to healthy yet appetizing foods, the Mediterranean Diet is quickly gaining popularity. A freshly-baked loaf of bread, sliced and served in a bread dipping dish with balsamic vinegar and virgin olive oil is simple and easy to prepare, tastes great and complements the Mediterranean Diet well. The more creative can experiment with other herbs and spices to give their dish extra flavor.

Ciabatta, focaccia and sourdough breads make great bread dips and can all be found at nearby delis or bakeries. On those chilly nights in winter, few things are more satisfying than some freshly-baked French baguette bread, served warm from the oven.

There is an old Italian olive oil dip that is really simple to make. Pour a small portion of Italian extra virgin olive oil in a bread dipping dish, add some fresh ground peppercorns, (white, red, and black peppercorns work great). Then add a pinch of sea salt.

Serve and dip with fresh baked crusty bread. Its an old Tuscan taste you may enjoy.
